Following the famous Art Sella forest calamity, Coral Mesika embarked on a journey to explore the concept of stability and its impact on our physical and physiological well-being. The question of how a space can be brought back to life after experiencing a calamity became the driving force behind the creation of TER. Mesika aimed to design a space that would provide visitors with a sense of stability, comfort, and a new experience.
The layout of TER is designed in a circular motion around an open outdoor cooking space, fully committing to the concept of campfire cooking. This unique design allows everyone in the restaurant to view and enjoy the chefs at work, creating a seemingly interactive dining experience. The circular layout also symbolizes unity and harmony, mirroring the natural flow of the forest.
What sets TER apart from other restaurants is its exterior and interior design. The restaurant resembles a massive boulder rearing in the forest, with the stone exterior making up the majority of the interior as well. This choice of material not only blends TER into its surroundings but also creates a sense of stability and strength.
Natural light plays a crucial role in TER's design. The outskirts of the circular ceiling allow light to flood the natural forms of the stone, emphasizing the flow of the space. This contrast against the "colder" materials, such as metals, which are lit using artificial light, creates a dynamic and visually striking atmosphere.
Measuring 200 square meters, TER is divided into different sections, including a lounge, bar, table dining area, stair seating, and an intimate seating area. Each section offers a unique perspective of the outdoor cooking space, ensuring that every visitor can enjoy the captivating sight.
TER was exhibited in October 2019 and received an Honorary Mention from the competition. Its design and concept were highly praised for their integration with the Art Sella forest and the unique dining experience they offer.
Coral Mesika's TER restaurant concept is a testament to the power of stability and the beauty of nature. By seamlessly blending into the Art Sella forest and offering a unique dining experience, TER reestablishes the core essence of Art Sella and invites visitors to immerse themselves in the tranquility of the forest.
